1-2-3 Bar-bar-i-ans!!!!!!

July 13, 2007

The Barbarians rolled up the Knights of Columbus and smoked them like a Cuban Cigar on Thursday night, not providing the type of game the crowd came to see. Prior to the game the left field fence was repaired and looked great. This one was very close early as the Knights came up with a couple of quick runs, including a blast by Jimmy Boy Cronin, just over the outstretched arm of RJ Garner in right field. The Knights were looking for some more shut down pitching from Mike Kelleher and his million dollar arm. With the potent lineup of the Barbarians good pitching outings are hard to come by. The Barbarians went with the one-two punch of Dave Johnson and Carlo Capanigro on the hill and the two pitcher scheme worked to shut down a good lineup for the young Knights team.

The Barbarians got some good defense out of their young infield and were able to hold the Knights to only a few runs in the innings in which they did score. The Barbarians however, put together a monster eight run frame, with homeruns from Capanigro and a towering blast from Mr. Macrina himself, who also hit a triple that one hopped into the bullrushes in deep center.

The Barbarians move closer to the league lead in the standings with this win, and the Knights see themselves in a fight for the fifth spot with NFL, with an upcoming matchup with the Greensox.

Also of Note: The "One Pitch for Earl" wall that now sits on the softball field near the backstop should stay for the remainder of the season, or even better, it should be moved to left field and serve as the wall, complete with a warning track. "Earl's Wall"
