Brickyard 11 - Knights 10

In what was called the "Fog Bowl" the Brickyard clinched the best record in the Nahant Softball League by beating the Knights in a barn-burner. Fans filled the field box seats because if you were sitting any further away you might not have been able to see the game. An unusually large crowd gathered to witness what could have been the "game of the week", considering the weak matchups on the docket. Joel Durgin took the hill for the Knights and pitched very well featuring some high arcing cheese, and worked his locations well. John Peterson was throwing for the Brickyard and only let up eight earned. The Brickyard let up a run in the top of the first on some infield errors, but got a couple of their own in the bottom, on what looked to be a huge inning, but Durgin got out of a bases loaded jam. The game stayed close up until the bottom of the third when the heart of the Brickyard order was due up. Greg Crosby led off the inning with a blast to deep left, followed by a Kiley Barrett tater to the same spot. The pitcher, John Peterson was due up third in the inning in hit a third home-run to deep left, making it back-to-back-to-back, on what turned into a seven run inning. The Knights showed thier trademark resiliency, coming back even though the Brickyard was mashing. John Peterson pitched a good game, and chalked it up to having his regular backstop behind the plate, off the 65 day disabled list. The Brickyard held on down the stretch and got some insurance on a tape measure solo shot by Jim Motzkin(?). The Knights, down three had a shot in the top of the seventh. They scored two runs with help from a Jim Cronin ground-rule double, his second in two games, but could'nt get a hit out of Brendan Collins, who popped out to third to end the game.

Also of Note: Adolph "A-Train" Gracile, normally known for his mild temper, came close to getting the first warning issue of the year for jawing with the umpiring staff.
