NFL 11 - Barbarians 9
NFL made a big statement before the playoffs, taking down the Barbarians, and more importantly winning the season series two games to one. The Barbarians without their fearless leader, looked lost, and couldn't string together a big inning. They did however get a good game out of Matt "Meet the Press" Pressman, who continues to prove himself in the league. He blasted a home-run in his first at-bat, and played a good shortstop. Bobby "Serip" Serino suffered his first loss, but pitched well, keeping the game close. NFL jumped out on top early, with help from a Jim Osborne liner out to right field, which was badly misplayed by Eric Faia, and turned into a home-run. No more than two runs separated these two ball clubs throughout the game. This ball game also had its fair share of close calls, including a play at the plate where Paul Mignone was visibly upset at a safe-call. NFL was just mashing all-night long, and scored in every inning. Jim Moleti silenced some of the big bats for the Barbarians and the closest they got was in the bottom of seventh, where Dave Johnson hit a big two out single that scored two to bring the Barbarians within striking distance. The Barbarian himself ended the game on a pop-out to left, much to the delight of the home town fans.
Also of Note: The Barbarians looked frustrated by the loyal NFL fans and find themselves looking for a way to cope with having a Yankees type stigma in the area.
