KG Sox 17 - Knights 5
The KG Sox got back to their winning ways on Thursday night in a game that looked like it didn't have a chance to get played. Players from both ball clubs conjured in the parking lot in a light rain debating on whether or not it was a good idea to play. Amazingly, the normally swamp-like field held up in all the rain, and at 6:05 the rain came to an abrupt halt. Both teams were ready to do battle and quickly made their way down to the field. The commish had to bite the bullet and stand in as umpire for this water balloon fight. The KG Sox lost the coin toss for the first time since the first game of the season and settled in as the away team. The Sox looked focused and hungry after a big loss to Galaxy. The Sox hit Dave Barille all over the yard, building a 5-0 lead after one half of an inning. Not to be out done, the Knight's potent bats came up in the bottom and put up a four spot, courtesy of back-to-back jacks by Andreas "The Latino Bambino" Uzetegi and Kevin Kelleher. The Sox pulled away late in the game with their small ball game, and scored at least a run in every inning. Dave Barille after getting shellacked for 11 runs in three innings was pulled in favor of Mike Kelleher, who couldn't right the ship in a relief effort. The KG Sox are in the thick of things in the division, running their record to 8-5 and join a dog fight (Michael Vick style) for the top three spots and a round-robin bye. The Knights fall behind NFL to sixth and are in desperate need of a rebound win.
Also of Note: The Kelly Green Sox got some big games out of both Pat "Dumper" O'Leary and Ian "The Big-Cat" Croal. O'Leary got his 8th win of the year shutting down the Knights after a shaky first inning, and also scored four runs in his first four at-bats. Croal, who has been swinging a hot bat of late, went 4-5 with to 2 RBI and 2 runs scored.
And: The Kelly Green Sox have ended their season series with the Knights, winning 2-1. The organization wants to thank them for participating in the 2007 season and hopes to see them in the playoffs.
