In a first round, six versus seven, playoff preview, the Knights dismantled the last-place Tides ballclub. The Tides franchise, in a major title drought over the last five years, continues to struggle. The Knights were clearly the better team in this one and came up with some big hits all night long. Johnny White got the start for Tides, his first of the season, and pitched suprisingly well. White kept the Knights big bats at bay, and served as a vocal leader on the field. Aside from a Jim Cronin blast that one hopped the left-field fence, the Knights had a hard time figuring out White's two-seamer. The Knights got on top early, and scored three runs in each of the first two innings. With the bases loaded and the heart of the order up, the Knights could only get two runs, on consecutive squeeze-play, swinging bunts. Mike Kelleher got the start for the Knights and continues his improvement, althought the learning curve appears to be fairly steep. He did notch a strikeout, on Tommy "TK" King, who took three straght called strikes. King claimed, "that will be in the papers", after the backwards K. Not to be outdone, White struckout Kelleher looking in the fifth. The Tides came back and actually made this a close game. Ricky Hart hit a solo home-run out to left, his first of the year to bring the Tides within four in the sixth. The Knights proved to be to much down the stretch and pulled it off, 20-14.
Also of Note: Joel Sanphy, who was pulled from the starting rotation and sent to the bullpen, took his frustrations out on himself following the game. He was seen cruising the field in the dark on a mo-ped. Sanphy was asked what he was doing after the incident. Sanphy replied " I lost my glove, second time in a week."
Coming Soon: Standings will be updated at the lower left of the Kelly Greens Softball page. With the standings will be a synopsis of every team as they head into the playoffs, and their odds to win a Nahant Series.
