Barbarians 20-NFL 18
An 18-8 game in the 5th inning, where a young NFL team had total control, then ended up collapsing down the stretch. Carlo Capinigro got the start for the Barbarians and hit three jacks; one that pinged off the brick facade of the pumphouse and into a nearby swimming pool, and beaned a batter in the 6th. NFL, after getting out to an early lead, did everything they could to hold on, trying desperately to get Jim Moleti his first win. Called a "devastating loss", and a "monumental comeback" by the respective players from each side, this game sparked another rivalry in the early-goings of the 2007 season. The game was marred with disputes including back-to-back calls by an umpire in the top of the seventh, one on a phantom turn to second base(where the runner was deemed out), the other on a play to Jim Osborne where the runner was called safe. The Barbarians now sit in sole possesion of second place behind the Brickyard and Galaxy, NFL falls to 1-4 coming into a highly anticipated matchup with the Kelly Green Sox on Monday night.
Also of note: Nicky Pap hit his first hum-dingah of the year, silencing his critics.
