The Cal-Dad Rule

June 1, 2007

In the longest game of the milenium, the Knights notched their first win of the year, a 29-10 walloping of a short-handed Tides team. Anthony Alessi got his second start for the Tides and ran his league-high earned run average to 17.00. The Knights jumped out to a 12-0 lead after two, only to give up 9 runs in the bottom of the third, with help from a Steve Viviano grand slammy to deep left. Dave Barille called this "the worst pitched inning in the history of Nahant Softball." The floodgates opened after the third as the Knights really took it to the Tides scoring 17 runs in the next three innings with help from homeruns from Jim Cronin, Andrew Zimbaldi, Dave Barille, and the Spaniard, who hit a fly ball that hasn't landed yet. There were great seats available right up until game time as this game only drew about 10 fans.

Also of Note: Joe Callagero laid down a drag bunt on a suicide squeeze play. He was called out after a short discussion by the umpires who called on the no-bunt rule instituted by the ASA.
