Brickyard 11 - Tides 3
In a battle of the first and last place teams in the Nahant Softball League the Brickyard notched another win, no major suprise. The Brickyard played relaxed and Tides was in this one throughout. Tides fielded only 3 outfileders and suprisingly made this a decent game. The Tides are riding the pitching of veteran Joel Sanphy who continues to improve since being called up. Sanphy's former club, the triple-A affiliate of the Tides, (The Jesmond Nursing Home Hover-Rounds) are happy to see his success at the major league level. He was working a circle change and a knuckle with some good movement. Holding this talented Brickyard team to 11 runs with three outfielders is a feat in itself. A good crowd was in attendence and a fan was pulled from the stands to umpire the game. The Brickyard coasted to an easy victory in this one with some timely hits including a three-run tater by Kiley Barrett. Tides did get to Tony Ragusa in the fourth and fifth, scoring three runs to make it some what respectable. The Tides fall deeper into the basement with another loss but are ever improving and deserve credit for competing every night. The Brickyard face their arch rival KG Sox on Tuesday night, and with a win can clitch at least a first round bye.
Also of Note: The playoffs will start with a one game playoff between the 6th and 7th place teams. The winner will face the fifth place team in a one game. The winner of this game plays the four seed in a one game in the championship of the round robin. The winner of this round robin will face the 1 seed in a 3 game series. The 2nd and 3rd seeds will face off in a 3 game series as well. The two winners will face off in a best of five Nahant Softball World Series and have there names engraved into the holy grail which is the Nahant Cup, which will be full of drawn butter for the champions to bathe their lobster meat in, or just dip their balls in it.
